DANÚ DUBAI PRESENTS: THE WALWORTH FARCE - The Courtyard Playhouse The Courtyard Playhouse

Tue 11 Jun 2019 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Written by Edna Walsh

Directed By Pádraig Downey

Fresh off the success of Endgame by Samuel Beckett (nominated for a Timeout Award for Best Theatre production) and of their Rachel Corrie production which wowed audiences and returned due to demand, Danú return with The Walworth Farce by Enda Walsh, directed and produced by Padraig Downey and starring Declan O’Sullivan (Paddyman).  Danú had huge success with their last Enda Walsh production  The New Electric Ballroom in 2017 which shocked and entertained audiences in equal measure. Expect more of the same with this production.

In the dark farce, an Irishman and his two sons live holed up in a top floor flat off Walworth Road, South London. Every single day they act out the same story; the day of their grandmother’s funeral and the absurd events that led them to leave Ireland and their life behind. For Blake and Sean (the sons) the story is the only world they know, the outside world is full of people out to get them, out to drag them to hell, and their father is keeping them safe. But they have begun to question whether everything their father, Dinny has told them is the truth. After Sean picks up the wrong shopping bag one morning, details of the story are changed and everything starts to unravel … “What are we if not our stories?” asks one character.

‘The craziest thing about Enda Walsh’s Walworth Farce is how quickly it starts making sense.’ – New York Times
