JUNIOR IMPROVISORS' SUMMER CAMP - The Courtyard Playhouse The Courtyard Playhouse

Join us for a spring intensive and experience the wonderful world of improvisation! Our Theatre Spring Camp for Young Improvisers is a fast-paced, exciting week of theatre where performers aged 8-11 & 12- 16 can explore the different styles of improv that dominate the writing, acting and comedy worlds today.

Improvisation has been popularised by the TV show Whose Line is it Anyway? and is a skill learned by performers, teachers, business managers, creative experts and children all around the world. It’s also a lot of fun!

Our Winter camp caters for all levels of improviser, from beginners to more experienced players. Together we’ll learn and refine performance skills by playing drama games, doing scene work and exploring a variety of improv exercises that unleash children’s natural creativity and humour. It will be a week filled with self-expression and spontaneity, where children will learn to be better listeners and storytellers – skills they can take back to school after the holidays are over.

We’ll explore characterisation, stagecraft and storytelling, all inspired by our imaginations, and in a thrilling finale to the week, we’ll end with a showcase, performed by our Young Improvisers in front of invited friends and family.

Improv is a great way to become a better risk-taker and increase self-confidence, as well as being a wonderful introduction to theatre and performance. Our beautiful venue and experienced instructors offer every child a warm, welcoming place to go on this journey. Plus, it’s exciting, enjoyable and a great way to make new friends!

Improv at the Courtyard Playhouse is the best thing that’s happened to me. Improv has huge benefits on my life as a teen. I strongly advise improv workshops for anyone who enjoys or is looking to take drama in their schooling career as it gives you an edge to devising and using techniques during class time. Also, improv helps boost confidence, which is massively important as a teen to thrive in early life and make the most out of opportunities. - James McLean, Participant
