In this intensive 3-hour workshop, our talented acting instructor Alana Hicks will guide you in using acting techniques – character, physicality, emotional adaptability, and stagecraft – to elevate your improv.
Leam to create and embody vivid characters, perform with clear, expressive physicality, and deliver emotional depth. With a focus on stagecraft, Alana will teach you how to perform with confidence and presence, as though you’ve been directed, making your scenes feel deliberate and polished. You’ll gain skills to command the stage, blocking effectively, owning your space, and engaging the audience as you build scenes that are powerful, memorable, and captivating.
About Alana Hicks:
With a lifelong commitment to the transformative power of theatre, Alana has dedicated her career to teaching acting, character development, stagecraft, and voice, supporting performers in both improvisation and scripted works. Her journey began in theatre for education with Australia’s NSW Performing Arts Unit, leading to roles instructing adult workshops in improvisation, character, and devised theatre at the Sydney Theatre Company and other prominent theatres across Australia and the UK.
Her global experience includes collaborations with actors and improvisers in cities such as Sydney, Calgary, Cape Town, London, Melbourne, and Dubai. Currently based in Dubai, Alana regularly performs and teaches acting and improv at a premium school, leads “The Desert Monologues” adult acting course at The Courtyard Playhouse, and works with the renowned Urdang International Theatre School. She also designs bespoke programs tailored to corporate clients’ needs, from fostering critical thinking to enhancing creativity and innovation.
In partnership with the Al Qasimi Foundation, Alana supports lifelong educational initiatives, collaborates with the UAE government to assist at-risk teens and newly qualified job seekers, and leads restorative justice theatre programs in correctional facilities. Through RAK Art, she promotes creativity within the community via themed workshops and performances for all ages. This diverse body of work underscores Alana’s dedication to theatre’s potential to inspire change, build essential skills, and enrich communities worldwide.
