As a KHDA Licensed Training Institute, the Courtyard Playhouse has a comprehensive a programme of theatre activities especially geared to school students. The programme is designed to give more opportunity to the hundreds of teachers and thousands of children in the UAE who deserve broader opportunities and better exposure to theatre and the Arts.
At the Courtyard Playhouse, students can experience international theatre Screenings; take part in work-experience placements or volunteering; learn set-design, lighting, scenography and the business of running of a modern professional theatre. Students can watch new, interactive performances and take part in workshops, Jams or Inter-Schools Theatresports™ Tournaments. Most of all, they can experience, learn and play in a young, vibrant and professional community.

WHAT WE DO
SCREENINGS
Schools can book our theatre auditoriums for private screenings, giving students a chance to experience top-quality international theatre in a real working venue. Screenings can be scheduled during school hours or at other times with advance booking.

‘Super Story’ is now available for school bookings. Each performance is completely improvised, shaped by the children’s ideas and choices. Inspired by Keith Johnstone’s ‘What Comes Next’, the show supports storytelling, literacy, social awareness and a whole lot of fun.

Our schools workshops bring improvisation, drama, musical theatre or public speaking straight into the classroom, using age-appropriate games and exercises. Our teaching approach is rooted in Keith Johnstone’s methods, with many of our instructors trained directly in his work.
GET IN TOUCHINTER-SCHOOL THEATRESPORTS
Each December, school teams compete in the Middle East’s only Inter-School Theatresports™ Tournament at the Courtyard Playhouse. Captains set dramatic challenges, teams improvise on the spot, and judges score each scene until one school claims the trophy to huge applause.
GET IN TOUCHWORK EXPERIENCE
Our work experience programme gives students hands-on exposure to how a real theatre operates. Participants support our team across front-of-house, technical, and creative tasks, gaining practical insight into the day-to-day running of a busy working theatre. It’s an engaging, skills-based introduction to the world of live performance.

Development events/Workshops/Skills seassions can be part of an inset day, a larger teacher training programme, or even International Book Week. Development events can be hosted at The Courtyard Playhouse auditorium or our team can travel to you.

ROLE-PLAY ACTORS
Role-play turns theory into practice – participants are observed in real life scenarios, offering learning and consistency in assessment. Tailored scenarios will be devised around your organisation’s culture and specific situations: an interview, appraisal or a meeting with a VIP client. We have a diverse group of talented actors trained in improv’ and with relevant business experience who can take on any role-play scenario in a credible and professional manner.
