MUSICAL IMPROV WITH ANDREW GENTILLI – ADVANCED INTENSIVE FOR ADULTS AUTUMN 2026
Ready to move beyond musical improv games and create an entire musical from nothing?
In this exciting three-day advanced intensive, internationally acclaimed improviser Andrew Gentilli will guide experienced improvisers through the skills needed to perform a complete improvised musical, from opening number to finale.
Working as an ensemble, you’ll explore how to transform spontaneous scenes into a fully realised musical with memorable characters, compelling stories and songs that genuinely drive the narrative forward. The intensive culminates in a live showcase performance where participants will perform a completely improvised musical together.
Over the course of the intensive you’ll explore:
• Creating rich characters and relationships that audiences care about
• Building stories with clear structure, momentum and satisfying endings
• Using songs to reveal emotion, develop character and advance the plot
• Weaving recurring themes, motifs and callbacks throughout a musical
• Supporting the ensemble to create a cohesive long-form performance
• Developing the confidence to perform a full improvised musical in front of an audience
The workshop concludes with participants putting everything they’ve learned into practice by performing a fully improvised musical.
This intensive is ideal for experienced improvisers who already have some musical improv experience and are ready to develop the skills required for long-form musical performance.

About Andrew Gentilli
Andrew trained as an actor at The Oxford School of Drama and Drama Centre London before going on to study improvisation at iO Chicago, UCB New York, The Hideout in Texas, The Loose Moose Theatre in Canada, Hoopla in London and various masterclasses across Europe. He now teaches and performs improv around the world, including events and private coaching.
He performs in Music Box: The Improvised Comedy Musical, two-prov team BEINGS with Susan Harrison, as well as founding short-form group The Inflatables and Storybag, specialising in long-form plays.
Andrew’s focus is on creating vivid characters and relationships to make engaging scenes and narratives, and bringing a positive spirit to short, long, or freeform improv.
Outside of improv Andrew is an artist, filmmaker and voice actor.
